Diversified communications company Cogeco Inc. [TSX: CGO ], will be launching a new and improved Wi-Fi service next month. Now it can be a bit of a fiddle trying to get logged in to a Wi-Fi hotspot. Even with an iPhone. But now there is a new way. Thankfully the boffins in white coats at Cogeco came up with a smooth and quick solution. By using mobile SMS.
The service allows you to get online faster through the use of text messaging and, by using a premium SMS option, you can charge internet time purchases back to your mobile phone bill. That is great for me because I hate giving out my credit card information over the telephone or web. (I am sure someone somewhere is buying Afghan hounds and Ferrari’s with my new cloned identity. I digress.)
The service will only be available in Cogeco hot spot areas, where 1 hour’s internet service costs $5 CAD. Not bad value unless your planning on moving in to your local coffee shop.
The new set up runs on Magnet Mobile’s new authorized premium network that is supported by TELUS Mobility, Bell, Rogers Wireless, Fido and Virgin Mobile.
